     Taiwan Studies MA Scholarship

The Taiwan Studies MA Scholarship is a prestigious award that fosters the next generation of global scholars and leaders in Asian affairs. The scholarship supports graduate students from a diverse array of academic and professional backgrounds to pursue advanced studies at the George Washington University with a focus on Taiwan. Thanks to generous support from Taiwan’s Ministry of Education, the scholarship awards up to $20,000 annually to partially cover the cost of one academic year of study.

2025-2026 MA Scholarship Recipient

Jon Geyer is a Master of Arts in Asian Studies candidate at The Elliott School of International Affairs, specializing in Taiwanese, Chinese, and ASEAN affairs. Geyer has studied as a Fulbright-Hays Fellow at National Tsinghua University in Hsinchu, Taiwan, where he participated in an intensive language program and conducted research on Taiwan’s LGBTQA+ community. Currently, Geyer is Assistant Director of ASEAN Affairs for the Organization of Asian Studies and a Staff Writer for the International Affairs Review, in which capacity he will study the complex ties between China, Taiwan, and ASEAN. He further intends to develop expertise in Taiwanese science and technology policy. After graduation, Geyer will pursue employment in the United States Foreign Service or at a think tank specializing on Taiwan and China’s science and technology policy.
